Dear Reds, we need your help - https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

If you think what we do is important, then a subscription right now is a game changer for our future as an independent fanzine in the year ahead. No football = no games to sell at. We need your support now more than ever. We believe the terraces of Old Trafford and its culture is a little bit stronger when Red News is around, and that our fanzine still provides a strong voice, and a different take on supporting MUFC that is worth keeping.

So on our 33rd anniversary we are opening up our new advanced annual subscription campaign because without your subscriptions, we will not be able to continue, nor be around in 2021. With your support, we will. We pride ourselves on still being a voice for normal Reds just like you. For giving space for reasoned, well thought out opinion, and for the type of exclusives and gossip you know us well for. And to praise, or hold the club to account, where it is appropriate. To shine a light where it is needed. A different type of fanzine. But one that still holds the same principles as when we first started in April 1987.

We have weathered many storms, including a decline in matchday sales, and all the changes, both good or bad, at Old Trafford in our time, but events right now out of our control are different... We only survive because of our readers. Without advertising, you keep us alive.

If games are behind closed doors, we will still publish. We WILL still publish. If needs be we will make certain mags double issues every second month like our one will be in May 2020.

The target this summer is 333 Reds.

    Thank you - https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

“Ferguson really was a super manager.

“It was so brilliant how he always kept the entire squad happy and focussed.

“Wenger was a combination of Ferguson and Van Gaal.

“Arsene always emphasized all the positive things and he looked at what would work for the long term.

“Tactically he (Van Gaal) is a genius. You can’t deny that. I have had managers who had their own strengths.

“But Ferguson really was a super manager.”...

“The best player I played with is Cristiano Ronaldo,”

“Obviously he was only there for a short space of time and he was brilliant for Manchester United and then went on to do even better elsewhere.”

Later on, Giggs added: “Scholesy is the best player I’ve played with at Manchester United. You’ve all seen it in training – you couldn’t get near him.

“His brain was just quicker than everyone else, his range of passing, nasty.

“You think you’ve got him and he’ll just pop it off and give it the little feint. He was just brilliant in training.”...

“The hardest player I played against was [Javier] Zanetti from Inter."

    "I was there,"

"Everyone was shocked, but things like this happen in dressing rooms. It was a random kick by the boss – it was just unfortunate that the boot went straight into Beckham’s face!

"He was very angry and we had to intervene to prevent a confrontation. But that was the end of it then.

"Still, it impacted their relationship, and was probably among the reasons why David left that summer and signed for Real Madrid"...

"Brandon started with the 23s, coming on pre-season with us, he was excellent,"

"He came in flying on the first day of pre-season, you could see the determination he had, he came back in great shape and he was working the hardest of the group.

"He's got his rewards now. He's got his chance in the first team, did really well and he's not looked back since.

"It just shows you how you can start off the season in one place and by the end of it, he's flying up there in the first team."

    "Teden [Mengi] has been fantastic,"

"He came up to us quite early on in the season and, a bit like Brandon in a sense, he came from the 18s and took his chance.

"He played really well and he kept his place in the team.

"And when he dropped back down at the end of the season to lead the Youth Cup team, he put in some excellent performances there.

"We'll be looking to work with him next season and he's one [player] we want to 'do a Brandon' with, push him on and the goal is to try and get him pushed up into that first team if we can."...

"He’s had a fantastic first season in the first team. He’s clearly a natural goalscorer,"

"This season – even though he doesn’t start all the time – his goals return and his stats are great, and he’s got some assists too. For someone so young, in their first season, he’s done brilliantly.

"He’s still got so much to learn, but if he carries on working hard and pushes himself every day then I don’t see why we can’t see him turn into another Robin van Persie or a player of that style that’ll score lots of goals for us."

"Purely the fact that he’s so two-footed, it’s unbelievable,"

"When I was younger, when I played youth football, there was a young lad called Lewis Baker who played with Chelsea, he was always both-footed.

"Him and Mason are probably the only two pure two-footed players I’ve seen. When I was at Southampton, Adam Lallana could also use his left and right very well.

"Also Ravel Morrison was very strong on both feet and we’ve seen a lot of people talking about his potential in recent weeks, but I’d say Mason is stronger on that front."...

“People talk about Pogba and it annoys me,”

“Whenever I’ve played against Pogba, four or five times now, no-one can get near him.

“He might not set the world on fire and score top-corner goals.

“But you cannot get near the kid – he’s always somewhere you’re not and you can’t fathom it.

“Until you’re on the pitch with him, you’ll never understand. From the stands it’s like ‘oh, he’s turned him’.

"Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world in the way that he coaches, how he studies videos, the way he goes about things. But then, within the group there was that feeling that you were in the team then out. Sometimes I didn’t play, then I did, then I didn’t and as a player you lose confidence, each player lost their confidence, do you understand?

‘And then an atmosphere was created that wasn’t healthy.

"Sometimes I’m playing well and I score a goal and he took me off. And I’d say, “I love football, I love football. I’ve played football since I was five and if I have the ball taken away from me, it’s as if I lose my joy. I’m like that."...

    Statement from the club

Manchester United defender Max Taylor has signed a new contract with the club.

The 20-year-old, who has been with United since he was 14, agreed a one-year extension to his current deal.

Taylor featured six times for United in Premier League 2 this season before joining Stalybridge Celtic on loan in January and enjoying his first taste of senior football.

He was on the bench as an unused substitute last November in the Reds' Europa League group game against Astana in Kazakhstan.

United sat second in the Premier League 2 table, three points behind West Ham United with a game in hand, before the season was ended due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The Mancunian also featured as United took part in their first Leasing.com Trophy campaign, against opponents from League One.

Throughout the Academy, players continue to work with coaching, education and player-care staff in order to continue their football development and support their mental well-being ahead of returning to training when it is appropriate to do so....
